Course Description:A pregnant patient may present to Urgent Care for reasons related to pregnancy, and the prospect of caring for two patients at once can be anxiety-provoking, even to the seasoned clinician! As well, pregnant patients may be seen for non-pregnancy-related illness, trauma or other needs. Dr. Oscar Almeida, who spent a career as an Ob/Gyn prior to becoming an urgent care physician during Hurricane Katrina, will provide useful tools in this session for the evaluation and management of obstetric patients who present to the Urgent Care Center.
Speaker: Oscar D. Almeida, Jr., MD, FACOG, FACS is a full-time Urgent Care physician with Stopwatch Urgent Care in Auburn, Alabama. After graduating from California State University at Long Beach, California with a BS in Zoology, he received his medical doctorate from the University Of South Alabama College Of Medicine in Mobile, Alabama. He completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University Of South Alabama Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and numerous Ob-Gyn and Surgical Societies, in addition to the Urgent Care Association of America. He has published over 25 peer-reviewed scientific papers, numerous book chapters, and has lectured throughout the United States and Central America. Dr. Almeida was in private Ob-Gyn practice for nearly 3 decades, also serving as an Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, Alabama. Before transitioning permanently into Urgent Care in 2016, he worked for two and a half years in Urgent Care following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 in Biloxi, Mississippi. He and his wife have five children, and five grandchildren. They enjoy traveling and fine dining.
