Course Description:This course is designed for physicians with little or no knowledge of the process of performing immigration physicals as a new service in Urgent Care. It provides an introduction on the state of legal immigration in the United States, the process and key features required to become a certified civil surgeon, and teaches the fundamentals on developing a successful healthcare team to navigate the intricacies of the immigration process.
Speaker: Rafael Santiago, MD, is a full-time Urgent Care Medical Director/Physician with Jordan Valley Community Health Center in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri with a BS in Pre-Med and received his medical doctorate in 2000. He completed family medicine residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA in 2004 and immediately after received a commission in the US Air Force where he spent the next four years. During that time he completed a combat tour in Iraq before beginning his full-time urgent care career as a civilian in 2008. He has worked in multiple urgent care settings and been an urgent care medical director and full-time clinician since 2013 and was recently named the 2017 Provider of the Year for his organization. He enjoys scuba diving, and shares a love of boating, cycling, glass fusion, fine dining, and travel with his wife of 25 years. They are both learning how to play golf and he spends most of his free time helping his wife in their glass fusion studio.
